Hi there! My name’s Amanda, and if there's one thing to know about me, it's that I’ve been sewing for as long as I can remember. My journey started with a lot of trial and error (trust me, there were a lot of failed attempts!), but I finally found my groove after using commercial patterns as a teenager. Eventually, something just clicked, and I learned how to tailor designs to fit my body. But the real turning point came when I started doing alterations for others. Working as a costumer for high school musicals was where my skills truly took shape. I loved the challenge of making the same outfit work for 10 to 15 different people. Each body is unique, and I’ve always found it incredibly rewarding to make clothing that fits everyone perfectly.
A New Focus: Alterations and Custom Fit
Now, I’m excited to shift my focus to offering alterations in my in-home studio. There’s something deeply satisfying about transforming a garment into something that fits beautifully and feels just right. Whether it’s adjusting a hemline, taking in a dress for a perfect silhouette, or modernizing a treasured piece, I love the opportunity to make clothing work for the unique needs of every individual. Helping people feel confident and comfortable in their clothes is what I’m all about.
Outside the Studio:
When I’m not sewing, I’m usually making something. I’m a bit of a creative multitasker—I knit, spin my own yarn, and love caring for my two French angora rabbits, Neil and Ozzy. They’ve got the fluffiest fur, and taking them for walks in their stroller is one of my favorite things to do. It’s just as cute as it sounds!
Learning how to spin on a spinning wheel has been a game-changer for me, and now, making my own yarn is one of the most relaxing things I do. There’s something meditative about it, and I love the process of creating something from scratch.
I also love playing video games, but I’m a bit of a serial monogamist when it comes to gaming—I play one at a time and don’t move on until I’ve finished.
Why I Love Sewing for Others:
One of my favorite things about being part of the sewing and crafting community is connecting with other people who share the same passion. There’s something special about helping someone bring their vision to life, whether it’s restoring a family heirloom, perfecting a formal outfit, or simply making their favorite jeans fit just right. It’s such a rewarding and inspiring space to be in.
